Last March 10, 2021, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the northbound portion of the Alabang Sucat Skyway Extension will be opened to motorists in the second quarter of 2021.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar expressed his optimism for the project during a site inspection. The 3.9-kilometer Sucat-Alabang Skyway Extension Project is said to greatly reduce the travel time for motorists in half, providing a convenient route from the at-grade segment of the Skyway to the elevated link.

“With 61% of the project already complete, travel time from the Skyway mainline toll plaza in Sucat, Paranaque to Susana Heights in South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) will soon be reduced by around 50%. This will greatly ease the traffic situation for those who are going home to the provinces,” said Secretary Villar.

The extension is expected to ease the usual traffic buildup near the Alabang interchange of the SLEX. Three northbound lanes and two southbound lanes will be added to the southern portion of the existing Skyway network once its extension project is complete.

Villar also shared that the project includes widening of the Skyway Alabang Toll Plaza to accommodate more motorists both from Northbound and Southbound directions.

“We are targeting completion of the northbound segment in the second quarter of this year while the southbound segment is being fast-tracked for delivery in September as part of our goal.” he said.

The DPWH and the San Miguel Corporation have also upped worksite safety precautions to prevent more accidents from happening such as the November 2020 incident. They expect the project to reduce travel time between SLEX and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to just 30 minutes once completed. If all goes well, the project may reach its target quarter opening this year.
