The South Commuter Railway Project is a modern suburban railway line that’s set to connect Laguna’s Calamba City to Metro Manila. It’s a part of the larger North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) network and is a shared project by the Department of Transportation and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This railway project will be the largest infrastructure financing project of the ADB to date in the Asia and Pacific region.

The project will include 18 stations that will help to ease road congestion, provide commuters with fast public transport, and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. The South Commuter Railway also follows the Malolos-Clark Railway line, which is currently under construction.

The South Commuter Railway will have 18 stations that are disaster-resilient and will reduce travel time between Manila and Calamba by over half. Further, it’s also designed to provide safe access for all commuters, including people with disabilities, the elderly, women, and children.

The railway project will have stations in EDSA, Santa Rosa, Buendia, and Sucat. It broke ground in 2019 with its first phase in February 2019, with the northern section of the railway project will include routes from Malolos to Tutuban and Malolos to Clark.

The North-South Commuter Railway will start partial operations in the third quarter of 2023 and is expected to be fully operational by the last quarter of 2024.
