1. Construction Management Software

CMS, or construction management software, is a cloud-based software that improves efficiency, reduces costs, and improves communication between all parties involved. This software is expected to take a leap in 2024, as it helps construction teams manage a project’s scheduling, planning, documentation, and communication.

2. Building Information Modelling

BIM, or Building Information Modeling uses 3D or three-dimensional models to visualize a building’s construction, design, and operation. These are created using software that allows engineers and architects to collaborate and share information on a project.

3. UAVs and Drones

The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Drones in the construction industry remains in its early stages but will continue to grow rapidly in the coming years. These devices can be used for site surveying and mapping, inspections, delivery, and 3D modeling.

4. Zero Net Energy Building

These kinds of buildings produce as much energy as they need for over a year. These kinds of buildings have become increasingly popular, and are projected to become a trend in the UK.

5. 3D Printing

3D printers are able to create three-dimensional objects from a digital file, making the need for traditional bricks and mortar. This innovation has already been used to create various construction projects and has been proven to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

6. Robotics and Automation

Robotics and automation solve the problem of the shortage of skilled workers and reduce costs. These can also automate both repetitive and dangerous tasks, such as welding and bricklaying.

7. Integration of Renewable Energy

The integration of renewable energy is expected to trend in the forthcoming year. Construction experts are using solar panels, wind turbines, or geothermal systems to power, heat, and cool buildings.

8. Offsite Construction

This kind of construction involves building structures in a factory or other controlled sites before transporting them to the construction site for assembly. This method is faster, more efficient, and improves safety.

9. Connected Construction Sites

This method uses a network of devices, sensors, and software to connect data, people, and equipment. This is expected to trend in the forthcoming year, as it allows real-time communication and collaboration — improving safety and productivity.

10. Advanced Safety Technology

Being one of the most dangerous industries in the world, the construction industry has a fatality rate three times higher than the national average. Because of this, technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, wearables, and AI are expected to trend to improve safety.

The Future Is Technological
